Gary Bowser, the Canadian hacker infamous for pirating Nintendo games and developing SXOS custom firmware chips that enabled players to run pirated games on the Nintendo Switch, was recently released from prison after serving a 40-month sentence in the United States. In addition to his prison sentence, he was also ordered to pay Nintendo a compensation fee equivalent to 20%-30% of his monthly salary for the rest of his life to make up for the losses he caused to the company. He is expected to pay a total of $14.5 million in compensation fee, but so far, he has only paid $200.
